TEAMWORK
Under my supervision, students will study basic techniques used in blocking, attacking and stances. As they progress, they will practice sparring techniques with each other. They learn to sense and monitor their partners needs. They learn to critique their partners with constructive feedback. Communications both verbally and with body signals is essential. Students discover they must cooperate to learn. That by being there for their partners they can trust and be trusted and they learn that: TEAMWORK IS THE FASTEST WAY TO SUCCESS !

MOTIVATION
At work, failure can be blamed on others or the system. Japan Karate Association has a rigid series of international tests that can only be passed based on the accomplishment of the individual. Students discover they have no one to blame for failure but themselves, even though the teacher is there nurturing. Students learn the only sin is not lack of success, but lack of trying and motivation. They learn that the risk in failure is essential to eventual success. By achieving small successes as they pass tests, they gain confidence in themselves to take on work tasks with the mind set that their work success is in their own hands.

LEADERSHIP
Students learn elements of leadership and vision through the example set by the instructor. They are taught kata, which is a formal exercise with a series of defensive and offensive moves against imaginary assailants. It is kata that teaches how each technique is to be performed in terms of body movement, and also conditions the body and mind and develops stable emotions under pressure. They learn to breathe properly and settle their minds in order to focus on their process of achievement. Fear, surprise, doubt and indecision are replaced by calmness of purpose in karate and at work.

LEARNING TO LEARN
The karate students learn through practice that they have fewer mental and physical limits than they thought. They learn that constant practice and attempts to understand the elements of karate can make the impossible achievable. As the mind body connection becomes more a part of their character, they apply learning steps from one belt level to learn and problem solve to the next belt level. They then use the same learning techniques at school and at work.
